Re: UA: Presidential Elections Marred By Allegations Of Fraud
Ukraine's parliament rejected the 21st November presidential election results, saying they didn't ``fully reflect people's will,'' and accused the government of a ``massive violation of law.''

Re: UA: Presidential Elections Marred By Allegations Of Fraud
Ukraine's defiant opposition leader, Viktor Yushchenko, insisted yesterday that a new presidential election must be held soon to rectify Sunday's disputed balloting, which has left Europe's second biggest country on the brink of anarchy.
Moscow thinks that the position on the Ukrainian presidential elections expressed by the Dutch foreign minister, in effect, calls for a reconsideration of the elections' results and openly encourages the Ukrainian opposition to take illegal actions, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
Putin has often seemed more interested in exercising power over Ukraine than in maintaining good neighborly relations with Washington or the European Union.
For months Kremlin spin doctors aiding the Yanukovych campaign have used a strategy of splitting Ukraine's multicultural society along linguistic, ethnic and religious fault lines.

Re: UA: Presidential Elections Marred By Allegations Of Fraud
Last night ABC Monday Night Football hosts John Madden and Al Michaels likened the horsetrailer award (of placing photos of the game's MVP(s) on the sides) to the Ukrainian election.
---------------------------------------------
Now on a more serious note Ukraine's Supreme Court suspended its deliberations Tuesday into allegations of ballot fraud in the disputed November 21 election without making a ruling, as opposition rallies raged on for a ninth day. Judges said they would resume hearings Wednesday morning at 10.00a (0800 GMT) into claims by pro-Western opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko that the election was stolen from him by widespread ballot fraud. Yushchenko wants the court, which began hearing the appeal on Monday, to annul the results handing victory to pro-Russia Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich, and he wants new polls.

The latest developments in Ukraine's political crisis may offer a way to break the country's political deadlock. For the first time, Ukraine's current president has suggested new elections as a possible compromise.
US President George W Bush called his Polish counterpart on Tuesday to convey "strong support" for European mediation in Ukraine's electoral crisis as other senior US officials engaged in furious telephone diplomacy to ease the worsening dispute.

Re: UA: Presidential Elections Marred By Allegations Of Fraud
A PEACEFUL victory for Ukraine's orange revolution was in sight yesterday as the authoritarian president who has ruled the former Soviet state for the past decade conceded that last week's presidential election should be re-run because of widespread claims it was rigged.

Re: UA: Presidential Elections Marred By Allegations Of Fraud
Ukraine’s Opposition scored a victory on Wednesday in its drive to overturn what it says was a rigged election, when Parliament sacked the government of Prime Minister and President-designate Viktor Yanukovich.
The prospect of a new presidential poll to break the political stand off in Ukraine appears more likely, after a series of developments overnight. Both candidates have called for the recent elections to be annulled and outgoing president Leonid Kuchma wants to begin the entire election process again.

Re: UA: Presidential Elections Marred By Allegations Of Fraud
President Leonid Kuchma proposed holding quick new presidential elections and handing interim power to a parliament where the opposition has a strong voice as a way out of Ukraine's political crisis.
Vladimir Putin, the Russian president, yesterday threw his weight behind a totally new round of elections in Ukraine, pointedly contradicting the opposition and EU's demand for a quick repeat simply of the run-off vote.
A hip-hop track took only four hours to make and is not on sale anywhere. But it's essential listening for the young protesters on the streets of Kiev. Cars blare it out as they roar through the Ukrainian capital, DJs at the protests use it to set the crowd alight and an opposition television channel plays it several times a day.

Re: UA: Presidential Elections Marred By Allegations Of Fraud
Ukraine's Supreme Court will most likely make its ruling today about opposition complaints of fraud in a presidential run-off, representatives for the rivals in the contested election said yesterday.
